ASU, as the core equipment for large-scale production of industrial gases such as oxygen, nitrogen, and argon, how is the liquid gas it produces efficiently stored, transported, and ultimately delivered to end users? This process cannot be achieved without a key technology – Dewar flasks. The Dewar flask is essentially a high-performance vacuum insulated cryogenic container. Its principle originated from the “Dewar flask” invented by Scottish scientist James Dewar in 1892. It utilizes the high vacuum environment between the double walls to significantly reduce heat conduction and convection, and is further equipped with high-performance reflective insulation materials to inhibit radiation heat transfer, thus enabling the long-term storage of liquid gases, such as liquid nitrogen at -196°C and liquid oxygen at -183°C. Modern industrial Dewar flasks have evolved from laboratory vessels to series- and large-scale engineering equipment. Their volumes range from small liquid nitrogen tanks of a few liters to full-capacity storage tanks of tens of thousands of cubic meters, serving as a “flexible bridge” connecting the continuous production of air separation units and the scattered demands of the market.

The large-scale air separation project for a major steel enterprise completed by Nuzhuo vividly demonstrates the integrated innovation of the Dewar tank system. This project not only has an hourly production capacity of several thousand cubic meters, but also is equipped with a multi-stage Dewar tank storage and distribution system. Nuzhuo innovatively introduced liquid oxygen, liquid nitrogen, and liquid argon products into three sets of large ground Dewar tanks, with a total capacity exceeding 5,000 cubic meters. These tanks not only ensured the continuous gas supply for the main steel production line but also directly vaporized the liquids through an intelligent vaporization system during peak power grid load periods, reducing the pressure on the compressor units and achieving energy peak shaving and valley filling.

What is more worthy of attention is the scheduling system designed by Nuzhuo for this project. The same liquid nitrogen storage tank can serve as a backup source of protective gas for the steel factory, supply high-purity nitrogen to surrounding electronic enterprises, reserve medical oxygen raw materials for local hospitals, and achieve multi-user collaborative supply through the intelligent logistics system, significantly improving resource utilization efficiency and emergency response capabilities.

“The Dewar flask has transcended its role as a simple storage container and has become a key node in the modern industrial gas supply chain,” commented an industry expert. “It seamlessly connects large-scale continuous air separation units with fragmented and constantly changing end-user demands, serving as the foundation for making cryogenic liquids into ‘goods’.”

Nuzhuo pays close attention to every detail of the equipment, even a small Dewar flask. It is continuously contributing the wisdom and strength of Chinese equipment to the world.
