Nowadays, cryogenic air separation unit projects have emerged all over the world. However, many industrial enterprises are building factories in remote areas where there is a shortage of liquid reserve resources. In some emerging development zones and industrial areas, there is often a lack of large-scale air separation facilities to ensure the supply of liquids. So, what measures do we have to ensure the stable supply of gases?

Nuzhuo offers three solutions for everyone:

1.cryogenic air separation unit: one in use and one as backup.

One of the cryogenic air separation unit equipment broke down. If it couldn’t be repaired in a short time, then another air separation equipment would be activated to supply gas. This has been the solution adopted by small and medium-sized air separation plants for a long time. Up to now, many state-owned enterprises in China still choose this model. However, for large-scale air separation plants, the investment cost for one set can easily reach tens of millions or even hundreds of millions of yuan, which is simply too high.

2.Increase the capacity of the liquid backup system

The backup systems of cryogenic air separation unit equipment are usually designed to ensure continuous gas supply for at least 24 hours. If the supply is insufficient, they need to guarantee supply for 48 hours or even 72 hours. When the gas supply is insufficient, liquid supplies need to be purchased from long distances. However, the drawback of this approach is that the price of purchasing liquid from long distances is often very high. Generally, the price of liquid is at least 50% higher than the cost of gas production by the air separation equipment. If a large quantity of liquid is purchased in bulk and the market price is at a high point, the price may even reach 300%.

3.Add an additional backup air compressor

The equipment in the cryogenic air separation unit is mainly divided into two categories: moving equipment and stationary equipment. The moving equipment mainly includes pre-cooling machines, air compressors, and expansion machines that require mechanical operation. While the stationary equipment mainly consists of self-cleaning filters, distillation towers, and liquid backup systems, which do not require mechanical operation. Equipment failures are more likely to occur on the moving equipment, especially the air compressor. Therefore, having an extra air compressor can ensure high reliability, but other equipment failures still carry certain risks.
